I have some great updates I’d like to share with you.
First I’d like to thank those of you who sent me emails asking when my next review will be. I will have two of them for you this week. As I like to visit a restaurant two or three times before I write an article on it, sometimes it takes me a bit longer than I would normally like. With that said, I do have some great food updates that you might be interested in!
Once again I will be judging this year’s Chicken Wing Festival! I was honored to receive an email from the Chicken Wing King himself asking me to judge. With droves of people in attendance each year, the Chicken Wing Festival is one of the biggest draws for Buffalo summer food events.
Last year the festival took a healthier turn by adding some gluten free items and heart healthy items to its list of vendors. From bobbing for chicken wings to the college wing eating competition, this is fun way to spend a day in the heart of the city of Buffalo. The festival kicks off August 30th at Cocoa Cola Field and the chicken wing contests start at noon. For more information go to Buffalowing.com.
The Taste of East Aurora-
The Taste of East Aurora will be holding its third annual food festival September 13th. This is a great festival and one I go to every year. The cupcake vendors alone make it worth while! The charm and rich history of this town and the quaint shops on Main St. offer visitors a unique and delightful experience. You’ll want the exercise, you’ll crave the wine samples, and you’ll love the food vendors! Check out their facebook page for more info- I’ll see you there.
The Best of Both Worlds-
If you’re looking for a way to get both exercise and great food, Tour de Farms 2014 is your chance! Brought to you by the Massachusetts Avenue Project (MAP) and GoBike Buffalo, Tour de Farms is a bicycle tour of local urban and rural farms, designed to highlight and celebrate sustainable transportation and WNY’s connection to the local farm to table food movement. This year’s ride is approximately 35 miles and bicyclists will travel from Buffalo’s west side, visiting urban farms and community gardens, stopping at Bippert’s Farm, and ending at Oles Farm in Alden, NY. Afterward, MAP & GOBike Buffalo host a Local Food Celebration for riders, families, friends, and the entire WNY community. This year’s ride kicks off at 9am on September 13th on Buffalo’s west side and all proceeds benefit MAP and GoBike Buffalo. It’s a great organization and a great cause. And after judging a chicken wing festival I may just have to sign up! If you’d like to learn more or register for the event click here.
If there is one thing I love about WNY, it’s the hidden gems you find that offer an abundance of fun. Becker Farms is one of those places. Having been introduced to this lovely farm a few years ago by friends, I try to make my way to Gasport, NY every fall to experience the bounty of festivals and events that go on here. Let’s kick off with the Labor Day Harvest Festival (August 30th and 31st) taking place this weekend. A Two day event, there will be plenty of apple picking, hayrides, pony rides, great music and food.
September 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th is there annual Johnny Apple Seed Festival, featuring music by the Good Ole Boys.
This year Becker Farms is hosting the Pumpkin Fiesta Festival. Starting in September, this festival will run multiple dates through the end of October, every Saturday and Sunday. The Pumpkin Fiesta is a great way for families to spend the day with their kids. There will be free live music, wine, beer, cider and a dessert wine tasting for $5.00. For all you foodie’s, there will be plenty of food including Becker Farms famous smoked Chicken bbq and ribs. It’s a great way to get into the fall season spirit.
I’ll be back later this week with two new food reviews! Until then…………..
